BIOGRAPHY
As the founder and principal of Williams HR Law Professional Corporation and Williams HR Consulting Inc., Laura boasts more than two decades of experience providing strategic advice and legal representation to employers on a full range of labour and employment law matters. Her core areas of practice include pre-termination advice and strategy, labour relations, workplace safety and insurance, wrongful dismissal litigation, workplace investigations, human rights, disability management. workplace violence and harassment compliance, privacy compliance, employment standards, workplace policies, employment contracts, restrictive covenants and workplace culture recovery.
Laura is passionate about providing her clients with proactive advice designed to minimize workplace law challenges, maximize employee engagement and boost their bottom line performance. She is widely recognized as a leader in helping employers leverage innovative strategies to reduce liability and costs derived from ineffective and noncompliant workplace practices. Laura speaks frequently at legal, HR and business seminars and conferences, and conducts customized, in house training and development for organizations to help them identify and address legal risks, improve engagement levels and optimize people management strategies.
As a recognized thought leader, Laura has been featured in various industry magazines and human resources publications including PROFIT magazine, where she provides monthly expertise and insights for business on a wide range of employment law and employee engagement issues. Laura has also been featured in various publications including Canadian Lawyer, Lawyers Weekly, Law Times, HR Professional Magazine, Canadian HR Reporter, Canadian Employment Law Today and Canadian Labour Law Today. In addition, Laura has appeared in various national broadcast and print media including CTV News, Global News, CBC Radio, the Globe and Mail, Canadian Business Magazine and Chatelaine. Laura is a labour relations instructor at the University of Toronto’s School of Continuing Studies in the Human Resources Management Program.
In addition to her work, Laura is a member of various professional organizations and community service associations. She is a member of the international Women’s Presidents’ Organization and serves as the legal advisor within her Toronto chapter. She is the past Vice-Chair of a United Way funded agency, and former Governor of Holy Trinity School in Richmond Hill. She serves as a volunteer for LIFE, the Lawyers International Food Enterprise.
In 2013, Williams HR Law was honoured with the Richmond Hill Chamber of Commerce’s prestigious Business Achievement Award and in 2014, Williams HR Law received the York Region Business of the Year Award. In 2016, Laura received the distinction of being listed on the annual W100, which ranks the top 100 female entrepreneurs in Canada.
